The
goals of the Integrated Photonics Initiative are to 1) create
a cadre of students all working on the development of photonic
integration technology to serve DoD systems and 2) generate
broader awareness of the DoD mission and available resources
for photonics on campus and at Lincoln Laboratories.
Dramatic improvements in a host of photonic technologies are
required in order to enable sustained improvements in advanced
communications systems. The preliminary
list of technical projects are on active-passive integration
using twin-waveguides, the design and optimization of SOA
subsystems, the hybrid integration of Si and InP, the development
of novel quantum dot active regions, advancing the state-of-the
art in high resolution inteference lithography, and developing
advanced architectures for intersatellite communications.
